The FDA Says Pizza Boxes May Contain Toxic Substances

Pizza boxes may be slowly poisoning you

The pizzeria down the street may be cranking out delicious pies, but you might want to BYOB the next time you go—bring your own box, that is.

According to Grub Street, the FDA recently released a report saying "there's 'no longer a reasonable certainty' that [pizza boxes] don't cause birth defects or have other weird cancer-causing properties." That's a lot of double negatives, but essentially what it means is that the FDA has found three specific chemicals that are no longer allowed to be seen hanging out in "food-contact substances."

How should you cope? Pledge to only make your pies at home or just show up at your favorite pizza joint with your arms open in a wide circle and say, "Put 'er there."
