Beautiful Watercolor Paintings With Recipes From Starving Artist

Artist Sara Zin turns her favorite recipes into gorgeous paintings

We're pretty obsessed with This Thing Now. Here's how to get it into your life.

Mere mortals Instagram their food. Sara Zin paints hers.

The L.A. artist relies on dreamy watercolors to illustrate her go-to recipes and shares them all (with instructions, too) on her year-old blog, Starving Artist Recipes.

"I just wanted to get back to the basics," Zin says. "I never learned how to cook, and I was having a quarter-life crisis, so I took a break from my art and cooked for an entire year."

After a rough transition from NYC to the West Coast, she asked family and friends for familiar recipes she loved growing up, including favorites like stuffed artichokes from her grandmother. Now exactly one year later, she has turned her comfort foods into one beautiful blog. And to celebrate the milestone yesterday, Zin threw up this buttery birthday cake recipe.

What's next for Zin? Perhaps turning the project into a cookbook, but for now, she's happy to dive deeper into painting the food she loves to cook.
