Untitled Restaurant By Chef Danny Meyer
Much like the art at the Whitney Museum, Untitled is a composition greater than its individual brushstrokes.
At this new restaurant from Danny Meyer, the daytime menu takes on coffee-shop classics such as sausage, egg and cheese on a roll ($8), cheesy home fries with a lashing of bacon ($5) and crispy kale, beets and yogurt vinaigrette ($10).
Dinner is served only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and, with three courses priced at $46 and a corkage fee of $10, the meal is an outrageous bargain. Although the cost of dinner at Untitled is low, chef Chris Bradley's cooking is epic.
His three-course set menu has a choice of main courses, but the appetizers, sides and dessert are served family style. On our most recent visit, we ate pickled baby corn with a creamy anchovy dipping sauce, a salad of watermelon and sugar snap peas dotted with fuzzy lamb's quarters and roast chicken with nutty fava beans, then shared a deep bowl of proper biscuit-topped cobbler alongside Stumptown cappuccinos.
Coddled by the engaging staff, we watched the sun drop from the glass-walled, Marcel Breuer-designed space. Afterward, as we walked through the empty museum, past the security guard, we felt as though the museum belonged to us.
