The Syrup Addition For A Spicier Starbucks PSL

The Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte has become synonymous with fall. Introduced to the Starbucks menu in 2003, the autumnal beverage has become so popular that even Smithsonian Magazine recently published a piece celebrating its twenty-year lifespan. If your love for the PSL has you marking your calendar for its release, you may be interested in the extra spicy, syrupy twist that you can have pumped or drizzled into your frothy hot cuppa Joe this season. Starbucks' cinnamon dolce syrup adds an exciting new take that has folks extolling its extra pumpkin pie goodness.

Just as with every other Starbucks drink, people love to custom tweak their PSLs from time to time. (This is how secret menu items and fall favorites like the pumpkin spice mocha and pumpkin white mocha were born.) One of the easiest ways to zhuzh up your PSL this season, magnifying its autumn vibes without adding an entirely new flavor element, is with the addition of cinnamon dolce syrup. This cinnamony caramel-tone syrup pumps up the pumpkin with a spicy kick that intensifies, bringing even more fall flavor, like a decadent slice of pumpkin pie topped with whipped cream. All you have to do is request a pump (or two, if you're feeling frisky) added to your pumpkin spice latte order.

Enjoying a spicier PSL at home

While devotees of the Pumpkin Spice Latte are more than willing to stand in line for their anticipated drink, if you're among those who DIY their own pumpkin spice latte at home, you can still try the cinnamon dolce hack. Making this simple syrup is super easy and you never even have to change out of your pajamas.

According to Starbucks, all you'll need to make your cinnamon dolce syrup at home is a cup of water, ¾ cup of sugar, ¼ cup of brown sugar, two cinnamon sticks, and ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract. First, add all the ingredients to a pan on the stovetop. Next, heat the pan until the syrup comes to a boil. Third, lower the heat so the mixture can simmer for about ten minutes or until the syrup thickens. Once it does, remove the pan from the heat and let the syrup cool. Take out the cinnamon sticks and add the syrup to your hot Pumpkin Spice Latte or let it cool to add to your cold brew. The syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for as long as two weeks, so you can keep enjoying your PSLs long into the fall season.
