Uber One And Van Leeuwen Collaborate For Sweet And Savory Ice Cream

In it's newest collaboration, inventive ice cream maker Van Leeuwen has teamed up with rideshare and delivery subscription service Uber One to celebrate the end of summer in a tasty and creative way. The two are introducing an Uber One Exclusive flavor, BBQ Gold Cornbread Crumble starting on August 15. The unique ice cream concoction combines "a sweet harvest corn ice cream base with delightful honey cornbread chunks and a tangy-sweet BBQ swirl finish." A pint of this genre-bending ice cream will set you back $10.50, but Uber One members get 10% off and no delivery fee when they place their order through the app. Pints can also be purchased by Uber One members in person at Van Leeuwen shops nationwide with proof of membership.

No promotion like this would be complete with just a rollout, though, and you can probably guess what a vehicle-centric company such as Uber has planned. A custom ice cream truck is set to cruise around New York City, providing access to Uber One BBQ Gold Cornbread Crumble in select locations. Those in the city can find it August 15 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. in Madison Square Park and from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Washington Square Park with a surprise special guest visitor. Then the truck will make its way to McCarren Park in Brooklyn where it will be parked from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Unexpected collaborations are nothing new for Van Leeuwen

While BBQ ice cream probably made you do a double-take, it's par for the course as far as Van Leeuwen is concerned. Past collaborations have melded the sweet and savory in creative ways, becoming a popular promotion for both culinary brands and decidedly non-food projects as well. To promote Netflix's "Glass Onion" in 2022, the confectioner made a Greek yogurt ice cream swirled with bourbon and caramelized onion jam. Alongside Kraft, Van Leeuwen released a "controversial" mac and cheese ice cream. And, the almost inevitable ranch ice cream they made — again with Kraft — was supposedly great with potato chips sprinkled on top.

For their part, Uber is looking to drive subscribers to their service with a raft of specialty promotions. For $9.99 per month or $99.99 a year, Uber One users get 5% off eligible rides and deliveries, priority service with highly rated drivers, zero delivery fees on most orders, and perks that include invite-only events. Uber One users can secure their pint or pints by opening the app, clicking on the Van Leeuwen banner, and adding it to their cart. They can also use the Uber app to see if they are close to one of the many Van Leeuwen shops, which are located in major cities across the country like NYC, Philadelphia, Houston, and Denver, to name a few.
