The Best Way To Enjoy S'mores On A Rainy Day

S'mores are the signature summer dessert — gooey marshmallows, melty chocolate, and crunchy graham crackers come together with a hint of campfire smoke for a sweet and nostalgic treat. The weather isn't always on your side, though, so when it rains, how do you keep the s'mores party going? The answer is s'mores dip.

S'mores dip is a deconstructed version of s'mores with a format akin to chips and dip. To make it, start by grabbing an oven-safe dish, like a cast-iron skillet. For best results, be sure to grease your baking dish thoroughly or lay down a piece of parchment paper before filling it. Then, cover the bottom with a layer of your favorite chocolate and add your marshmallows on top and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until golden brown, usually 8 to 10 minutes. When you pull your dish out of the oven, the chocolate will have become liquid and the marshmallows will be soft and sticky — perfect for scooping up with graham crackers and enjoying!

S'mores dip variations

The perk of making s'mores in this style is that it allows for a lot of freedom when it comes to what ingredients to include — that is, beyond selecting your favorite chocolate brand and marshmallow variety. Unlike traditional s'mores, you don't have to worry about getting messy when things start to ooze and drip. Go for a decadent twist by swirling in your favorite spread, like fruit jam, Nutella, or salted caramel. If you're feeling extra adventurous, you can branch out by adding peanut butter and soft toasted bread for a pan-sized fluffernutter dip.

And while we're on the subject of carb-swapping, graham crackers can be changed for other less conventional dipping companions (since this component is no longer responsible for holding the s'more together), like pretzel rods. These are a great option, as they lend a salty balance to the sweet chocolate and marshmallows. Croissants can also bring a sophisticated, flaky decadence to the table, or you can double down on your chocolate obsession by using brownie bites. No matter how you choose to customize your s'mores dip, one thing is for sure, rainy summer days will no longer be getting you down.
