The Double-Duty Reason All Tea Lovers Need A Spoon Rest
There's a certain ritual to making a cup or pot of tea. It creates space for you to find your center even on the most hectic days. Some call this mindfulness. If you're already a tea lover, you probably can relate to the satisfying sound of the tea kettle heating up. Just as a gong calls guests to the table for dinner, the whistle of your kettle calls you to be present and fully in the moment.
A tea setup can look different depending on the person. Most often the basic essentials will include a tea kettle (electric or stovetop), a teapot, a cup, a spoon, and a sundry of teas to suit any mood or taste. And, if your tea game is on point, you probably also enjoy using loose leaves which require an infuser, strainer, tea ball, or press. But, there's no reason you can't also use teabags, as there are plenty of exceptional choices available on the market. But, there's one tiny caveat. Can we all just agree once and for all that finding a soggy teabag plopped down on the side table (even if there's a newspaper or paper towel under it) is just plain gross? It's enough to snap you right out of that mindfulness bliss you just created. That's why your setup needs a spoon rest. Well, one of the reasons.
Why a spoon rest?
When it comes to the ritual of tea, a spoon rest lends a helping hand in a couple of ways. First of all, it is handy to include one in your practice so that when you're finished with a tea bag, there's a logical place to set it. Hint: It's not the furniture. And, as its name suggests, you can also use the spoon rest for your spoon after stirring in a little sugar or cream into your tea.
There is a tea accessory called a teabag tidy that could fit the bill, but that's just one more thing you have to keep up with. It's not that there's anything wrong with being a little messy from time to time. But, there are certain methods to the madness. At the end of the day, when all you want is a cup of chamomile and a hot bath, we're willing to bet that you'll find a little pleasure in adding a spoon rest to your tea setup.
