A New Lucky Charms S'mores Cereal Is Coming In 2023

A campfire-themed twist is coming to one of America's favorite cereals. According to a press release shared with Tasting Table, Lucky Charms S'mores is one of the newest additions to the General Mills cereal line-up. It will be available for purchase starting in January 2023.

Lucky Charms states the brand-new cereal will include graham squares, chocolate cereal, and, of course, it wouldn't be Lucky Charms without the iconic marshmallows. Instead of the fun shapes like hearts, stars, and horseshoes, the marshmallows in Lucky Charms S'mores will be traditionally shaped.

Founded in 1964, Lucky Charms has exploded in popularity as one of General Mills' most popular brands (via General Mills). According to Bloomberg, following a marketing campaign in 2013 to target adult consumers, Lucky Charms became a major contributor to the company's sales growth. Creative additions to the brand have since been introduced, including Lucky Charms oatmeal and a marshmallow-only cereal.

Innovations may fuel success

This is not the first time Lucky Charms has ventured down a chocolatey path. According to Refinery 29, Chocolate Lucky Charms were first introduced on a limited edition basis in 2005. Now that variation is a permanent addition to grocery store shelves, available for purchase in the United States (via Lucky Charms). Additionally, per Bustle, in 2018, the brand unveiled a limited edition "Chocolatey Winter Mix" that featured snowflake-shaped marshmallows.

The Lucky Charms brand appears comfortable switching up its classic flavor in the name of innovation. Other current flavors include Lucky Charms Honey Clovers and Fruity Lucky Charms Cereal. It's possible that the brand's constant innovation may be a part of its continued success. According to a 2018 Kiplinger study, Lucky Charms was the sixth most popular cereal brand in the United States, with over $283 million in sales.

Excited fans only have a couple of months to wait until Lucky Charms S'mores arrive on grocery store shelves. If the sales of the original cereal are any indication, the new flavor will surely be just as "magically delicious."
