Trader Joe's Has New Chocolate-Dipped Ice Cream Sandwiches

Ice cream lovers will tell you there's never a wrong time to enjoy the frozen dairy treat, and they're not wrong. We'd even go as far as saying that cold weather was actually made for enjoying ice cream. Think about it: There's no need to stress about a melting scoop when the temperatures are already chilly. Answering our frozen dessert desires, Trader Joe's has just released a new line of ice cream sandwiches. Deliciously dipped in chocolate, here's what you need to know about the frosty bars.

A humble dessert, the ice cream sandwich has long been a part of American culture. Believed to be invented by a New York pushcart salesman at the turn of the 20th century, The Boston Globe reports that the sandwiches quickly gained popularity, especially during the sweltering summer heat. This led both stock brokers and citizens to line up for the icy delight. With the passage of time, several variations took shape, including those made with sponge cake (via Mental Floss). While cookies now tend to be the medium of choice, endless ice cream and cookie combinations exist. Enter: Trader Joe's (TJ's) and its steady stream of fresh and fun product releases.

Introducing Figo!, the cool, new ice cream sandwich

Taking to Instagram, Trader Joe's List revealed the launch of Figo!, a line of chocolate-dipped ice cream sandwiches from TJ's. Translating from the Italian word meaning "cool," Figo! bars are like a hybrid between a standard ice cream sandwich and a dipped cone. Let us explain.

Although the main components of TJ's new frozen treats may seem simple — cookies, ice cream, and chocolate — the ice cream sandwich is crafted in a delicious and unique way. With either a chocolate or vanilla ice cream filling, one half of the bar is sandwiched between two chocolately cookies, while the other half is coated in rich milk chocolate. Offering a variety of textures and flavors, the ice cream sandwiches are ultra decadent and ultra delicious. Available at TJ's locations, Trader Joe's List states that each box retails for just $4.49.

Even though many fans are excited to try the new treats, with some even comparing them to an old-school Tandem ice cream bar, not everyone was thrilled. Several fans of TJ's took to the social media platform, expressing disappointment over the fact that the bars were so close to being gluten-free (GF) but missed the mark. While Trader Joe's has previously offered gluten-free ice cream treats (and even vegan alternatives), it appears that GF-free fans will have to sit tight just a bit longer.
