With Pride weekend upon us, the time has come to a) dig out the rainbow attire and b) celebrate the LGBT community—while continuing to march on for everything that's left to accomplish. And while thousands will be lining up to witness Sunday's lively procession down Fifth Avenue, there's more than just one way to show your support. Here are 10 events and spots to hop to and from this weekend—rainbow glitter trailing behind you.
The birthplace of the gay rights movement, this Greenwich Village landmark is hosting the kickoff of NYC Pride today, at 5 p.m., with performances and speeches from prominent activists. On Sunday, the inn will be open for more festivities starting at noon.
Friday, June 22
Come together to march for the visibility and rights of trans, queer people of color and the gender nonconforming today, at 3 p.m., at Chelsea Street Pier 45.
Sunday, June 24
Take to the streets for one of the biggest Pride events in the world. With no shortage of rainbow flags and dancing, the annual parade will begin at 16th Street and Seventh Avenue, and end at 29th Street and Fifth Avenue.
This waterfront restaurant, known for its 24K-gold pizza, is serving another glitzy special called the Sweet Pride: lemon cheesecake topped with sprinkles, waffle cones, cotton candy, Nerds, sour candy and a rainbow swirl lollipop, all served in a giant martini glass.
SUGARCANE will be serving Rainbow PRIDE Nigiri, with tuna, salmon, tamago, avocado, octopus and hamachi topped with oshinko.
Ignacio Mattos's Soho restaurant is donating a portion of its proceeds to The Ali Forney Center, a program dedicated to protecting homeless LGBTQ youth.
In celebration of Sunday's march, The Loyal will be serving a Unicorn Sour cocktail special, where a $1 donation will be made to Planned Parenthood for every order. Other specials will include deals on frosé, Long Island Iced Teas and a limited-edition sparkling rosé that includes a $2 donation to the Human Rights Campaign. Top it all off with the Rainbow Sundae Set, a Pride-themed twist on The Loyal's classic ice cream sundae.
After the march, Pondicheri is hosting a Bollywood-themed dance party—look forward to a show from Doonya dance group, drag performances, and food and drink specials. (Those who arrive in drag get in for free.)
