Food History, Food Science, Food Culture
  • Andrew makes educational videos about the history and culture of food around the world for TikTok and Instagram under the name PassTheFlamingo. His TikTok channel was mentioned by Epicurious as "a great example of people who approach culinary obscura through a desire to understand rather than as an object to poke fun at."
  • Since 2017, Andrew has given presentations on food history at the Brooklyn Brainery, as well as libraries, restaurants and other venues around NYC.
  • In addition to food writing, he is the author of a fantasy novella, The Knife's Daughter (2018).

For Andrew, food is so much more than nourishment: it's the stories of who we are and where we came from, an entry-point into understanding diverse perspectives and experiences past and present. On his TikTok channel Pass the Flamingo, Andrew's videos about food history and culture have gained 5.6 million likes and over 200,000 followers. Andrew previously worked as an educator in museums and other education nonprofits, leading and developing tours for institutions including the Brooklyn Historical Society and the Museum of the City of New York. His food writing has previously appeared in Atlas Obscura and Eaten Magazine.

Andrew's academic background is in ancient history and education, including a Bachelors in Classics from Bard College and a Masters in Museum Education from Bank Street College of Education, both in New York state.
