Instant Pot Recall, Fire Hazard 2018

The issue affects more than 100,000 Gem 65 models

Instant Pot, the cult-favorite brand of multi-cookers, announced a recall of more than 100,000 appliances due to fire hazard risks. According to Today, the recall comes after the company previously issued a warning about its Gem 65 8-in-1 cooker having issues of overheating and melting.

Over the past few months, 107 reports were filed to Consumer Reports about the particular model (which doesn't actually include a pressure-cooking function), involving instances of it getting too hot and warping after use. Of those incidents, five involved "minor property damage."

Instant Pot's parent company, Double Insight, has issued a statement, telling users how to identify if they are affected by the recall.
