8 Outstanding Room Service Menus

Whether you need breakfast in bed before you face the world or simply want to stay in for the night with your plus one, no one should settle for bad room service. We're talking overcooked eggs and stale toast, or even worse, a small bag of broken potato chips that runs $5. Instead, opt for Mario Batali's amaretti and mascarpone pancakes, eggs Benedict with crab and tarragon hollandaise, or delivery from Roy Choi at one of these hotels featuring some of the best in-room meals around the country.

① The NoMad, New York City

Though the dining room at The NoMad is lovely, sometimes it's even better to simply spend the morning in bed with the hotel restaurant's riff on eggs Benedict with crab, tarragon hollandaise and frisée. If you threw back one too many drinks the night before, there's also a breakfast sandwich with duck sausage and cheddar on a house-made English muffin. Or if it's evening and you can't face the outside world, order the acclaimed roast chicken with truffles and foie gras straight to your room.

② The Line, Los Angeles

Koreatown has more than its share of excellent restaurants, including a few owned by Kogi master Roy Choi. The Line hotel will deliver the chef's food, like his breakfast burrito, congee with a soft egg, Spam musubi, and spicy ramen with an egg and cheese to your door. Dishes arrive as takeout, so don't expect a tray here.

③ Chicago Athletic Association Hotel, Chicago

Shake Shack burgers and fries arrive while you're still in your bathrobe at this Chicago hotel, fresh from the outpost downstairs. A bonus: The hotel's gym is top-notch, so you can work out pre- or post-Shack Stack if you feel the need.

④ Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas

Take a break from the bustle and glaring lights of Las Vegas and enjoy a leisurely Japanese breakfast at the Mandarin, where teriyaki salmon with sushi rice, silken tofu with ginger, miso soup, pickles, an omelet and fruit arrive in a bento box. Tucked into the long list of Western and continental breakfast options is also a warming congee, or rice porridge, cooked with chicken and ginger, and served with salted mustard greens and braised peanuts.

⑤ SLS Brickell, Miami

Pass on the yogurt and oatmeal when staying at the new SLS Brickell and go for dishes from José Andrés's restaurant, Bazaar Mar, downstairs, like huevos a la cubana, two fried eggs with rice, bacon, sweet plantains and tomato sauce, or pan con tomate, a tomato toast with serrano ham and Manchego cheese.

⑥ The Eliot Hotel, Boston

Though you will have to head downstairs for the full experience at Ken Oringer's UNI, the restaurant's kitchen doubles as the room service kitchen, meaning lobster and pork belly ramen and a fried chicken banh mi can be delivered to your room.

⑦ The Maritime Hotel, New York City

Trade an evening with the crowds at Mario Batali's restaurant, La Sirena, and enjoy a dinner of "old-school" beef braciole with escarole ragù or ravioli all'amatriciana upstairs. In the morning, wake up to amaretti-mascarpone pancakes.

⑧ Greydon House, Nantucket

Once you see the rooms at the Greydon, you'll understand why even considering leaving (especially in the low season when it's cold out) seems ridiculous. Thankfully, the hotel's restaurant will deliver anything from its lunch and dinner menu to your room. Think grilled Maine prawns in coconut broth with lemongrass and Asian pear or a rib eye for two, which no one has to know you plan on eating yourself.
