Video: How To Make A Surprising Zebra Cake

What's black and white and delicious all over?

This surprising zebra cake looks simple enough, like any other standard-issue cake-until you cut into it to reveal vertical black and white stripes inside.

To make the cake, prepare a boxed cake mix (or your favorite from-scratch vanilla cake recipe) according to the package instructions. Pour 2 cups of the batter into a liquid measuring cup and stir in 3 tablespoons of sifted cocoa powder. Add the remaining 2 cups to another measuring cup. Alternating between chocolate and vanilla batter, pour small amounts into a greased 9-inch cake pan creating a bull's-eye pattern, like in the video above.

Bake the cake at 350° for 40 to 45 minutes, until it springs back lightly when touched. Hide your secret with whichever frosting you'd like, then slice through it to reveal your animal-inspired dessert.
