How to make chocolate bark for the holidays

There's always that one person on your Christmas list who already has everything-but don't cop out and settle for a gift card again this year.

Chocolate bark is an endlessly customizable (and extremely simple) gift for the holidays. Heat a 12-ounce bag of semisweet chocolate chips for 1 minute in the microwave, adding time as needed until all the bits are melted. When the chocolate is smooth, pour it onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and use an offset spatula or the back of a spoon to spread it into an even layer. While it's still warm, sprinkle on any add-ins you want, then let it chill in the refrigerator until set.

If it tastes good with chocolate, it'll taste good on bark-but here are three of our favorite combinations. Do Christmas in Hawaii with toasted coconut flakes and macadamia nuts or channel the King with peanuts, banana and bacon. Or for a sophisticated (and color-appropriate) version, decorate the top with pistachios and pomegranate seeds.

The best part? No one will know if you keep a couple of pieces for yourself.
