What's For Dinner: Snap Peas, Fried Chicken And Coke Cake

A playful menu for all your senses

Not feeling inspired by your usual dishes? Here's what's for dinner.

No, this isn't about eating a big bowl of puffed rice cereal for dinner, but, hey, we've all been there. Instead, this rather musical menu gets snap from peas, crackle from fried chicken and pop from soda-infused cake. However, now that you've got Rice Krispies® on the brain . . . we have a guess as to what might be for breakfast tomorrow.

① Appetizer: Snap Peas, Turnips, Mint & Preserved Lemon

There's no debating the fact that snap peas, well, snap. Here the greens are cooked ever so slightly with equally crisp turnips, then shocked in ice water to retain their namesake bite. Drizzle them with a bright shallot vinaigrette or sub in this hot pickle brine dressing for some kick with your snap.

② Main Course: Duck Fat-Fried Chicken with Spicy Slaw

Chef Takashi Yagihashi douses his chicken in potato starch before frying it in duck fat, which doubles the poultry flavor and crackle factor. The sweet-and-spicy cabbage slaw brings even more crunch to the plate.

③ Dessert: Coca-Cola Cake

Why bother with baking soda when you can use the drinkable kind? Bubbles from the pop provide the leavening essential to this light-as-air chocolate cake. Experiment with flavored sodas (cherry, vanilla, even celery) to see if any take the cake.
