What to drink on Verdejo Day this year

There are a couple of good reasons to brush up on your Spanish wines, right now.

First of all, it's starting to warm up outside. Secondly, Verdejo Day, June 12, is just around the corner.

Verdejo, the signature grape of the Rueda region, is a deeply aromatic, dry white wine grape. Take a sip and you'll see why it's utterly perfect for spring and summer sipping (not to mention affordable, too). With their balanced acidity and minerality, wines from Rueda are extremely food-friendly and versatile, ideal for popping at a moment's notice and sharing with friends.

The wines go well with spicy dishes and pair beautifully with foods that are high in acidity, such as Salt-Crusted Branzino (get the recipe) made with lemon juice and star anise or this Asian-inspired Tomato Salad (get the recipe), getting cozy with coconut milk and fish sauce.

Whatever you're cooking this spring and summer, Rueda's a great go-to.
