How To Make A Prosecco Cocktail From Joe Campanale

This twist on an Italian classic, courtesy of Joe Campanale, is so right

When he created the beautifully layered Wrong Way, mixologist Joe Campanale was inspired by an Italian cocktail known as Sbagliato, or "a Negroni gone wrong." Typically, a Negroni is equal parts gin, sweet vermouth and Campari, but Campanale replaces the gin and Campari with bitters and Prosecco here.

"This drink has a nice bitterness to it that helps whet your appetite," Campanale says.

He also notes that there's no need to shell out for an expensive bottle of Prosecco to make it. Just make sure it's dry and something you would drink on its own.

Total time: 5 minutes
  • 1 ounce Contratto Bitter
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth (such as Carpano Antica)
  • Ice
  • Prosecco, to top
  • Orange slice, for garnish
  1. In a wineglass add the Contratto Bitter and Carpano. Fill a little more than halfway with ice. Top with Prosecco and garnish with an orange slice and straw. and serve. Note: There should be a separation in color between the clear Prosecco and red/brown color of the Contratto and Carpano mixture.
