Off a dusty stretch of road 30 miles from Downtown lies Greenshower Organic Farm, a two-acre operation specializing in Asian produce, including many fruits and vegetables previously only available at larger SGV supermarkets, like 99 Ranch.

With everything from Taiwanese bok choy to cucumbers and purple yam leaves, Greenshower is gaining a following among local residents and chefs, many of whom are experiencing organic farming for the first time.

Owner Marco Guo, who operates the bonsai nursery next door, launched the farm two years ago with the goal of providing a community outlet for fresh-picked produce. The FDA-certified farm doesn't use any pesticides, and is fertilized with manure from a nearby ranch.

Customers can place orders over the phone using an order sheet available online, then pick up their veggies a few hours later, once they are harvested. Greenshower also hosts a Saturday-morning market on the premises, along with booths at both the Monterey Park and Alhambra farmers' markets.

We cooked a simple soy-laced stir fry made with Napa cabbage and Chinese celery from our recent Greenshower haul. It was so delicious, it's little wonder Guo's organic produce is turning heads (and filling stomachs).
