Expert Food Photography Not On An Instragram Feed

A picture is worth a thousand bites

These days, anyone with a smart phone can be a food photographer.

That said, there are very few Instagram photos we've encountered that we'd be willing to put on our walls. For frame-worthy food shots–or advice on how to take them–we turn to the experts.

White on Rice Couple: Diane Cu and Todd Porter, the duo behind this blog, have mastered the art of the glossy food shot. Their newly launched online store stocks prints ($75) and food styling props, so you can decorate your walls with their truly mouthwatering art–or work on making your own.

Whimsy and Spice: Now you can enjoy the talents of these New York-based confectioners long after you finish their cookies. The husband-and-wife team has begun to sell their stunning, sugar-kissed prints online, available as posters and calendars ($24). Our favorites are the beautifully rendered kitchen conversion prints; each is lovely to look at and handy to boot.

Edible Selby: For a quirkier take, turn to photographer Todd Selby's new tome. Like the T Magazine column on which the book is based, Edible Selby ($35; buy it here) documents chefs in their homes and restaurants using a sprawling combination of watercolor drawings and stunning photographs. The handwritten recipes and text read like a scrapbook filled with portraits of good friends (ones who make perfect pies and win James Beard Awards, of course).
