Due North Artisanal Rum From Red Hook | Brooklyn, NYC

Due North rum debuts

Back in ye olde seafaring days, sailors were allotted a daily ration of grog, often more brackish water than rum.

But, when the captain doled out a pure serving, the sailors would say the ration was "due north."

Afford yourself the same courtesy with New York's new Due North Rum ($23 for 375 ml) from Van Brunt Stillhouse.

Crafted with the molasses flavor of unprocessed sugar that is sun-dried in the foothills of the Himalayas, this is a full-flavored rum light enough for sipping neat.

Daric Schlesselman is running the Red Hook waterfront operation (when he's not editing The Daily Show). Further iterations from the stillhouse will include white and aged whiskey, a red-grape grappa in conjunction with Red Hook Winery and a full tasting room.

Try Due North in a Knickerbocker with CuraƧao or in a Manhattan with rum in the place of whiskey. But this is a rum born for stoop sitting with a Dark and Stormy in hand.

Three sheets to the wind!

Due North Rum is available at Astor Wines & Spirits, Dry Dock Wines and Spirits, Heights Chateau, DrinkUpNY and Smith & Vine
