A Milwaukee Day Trip Guide | Chicago

A day trip to Milwaukee's new spots

A 90-mile straight shot north of the city, Milwaukee has long been our destination for a quick, restorative daytrip.

We hit the art museum, sip locally roasted coffee, scout antique kitchenware, and grab dinner (and perhaps some pie) before heading home.

On our most recent visit, we barely had time to visit old favorites; the day was spent eating, drinking and stocking the larder at a slew of exciting newcomers. (Click here to see the full itinerary–with photos!)

Following our guide to Milwaukee's new faces will lead to pickled eggs and lamb meatballs at Bay View's new The Odd Duck, and blood orange Manhattans at the tiny, precious Walker's Point newcomer The Noble.

You'll try cheese flights at the Wisconsin Cheese Bar and stock up on Pleasant Ridge Reserve cheese and Bolzano salumi at the Cheese Mart next door. For dinner, there's Braise, a new restaurant from a well-known chef who's also a tireless advocate for local produce.

Fuel the trip with coffee from local roasters Anodyne or Alterra. And, time permitting, swing by Antiques on Second for a staggering collection of cocktail coupes, plateware and other vintage perks for your kitchen.
