Villainy General Store | Los Angeles, CA

A one-letter shopping list for Villainy General Store

From vintage candies to "I Survived the Trader Joe's Parking Lot" tote bags, Echo Park's new Villainy General Store sells items better described as "eclectic" than "general." But we found some B-word provisions worth a return visit:

Bread Our dining habits may be public, but the bread-baking obsession we've developed remains an at-home affair. Still, the loaf we made with San Francisco-milled flours from Giusto's ($12 to $13) was such a success that we had to share the news. And if you're looking to make a first foray into baking at home, grab a cast-iron Dutch oven at Villainy and get baking.

Bacon If all of the talk about dudes cooking with bacon had you convinced that cured pork belly was a man's domain, you need not look further than Rashida Purifoy's Cast Iron Gourmet to be disabused of that myth. Villainy stocks the pig-crazy company's Bacon Crack ($10)–a fitting name for these addicting bits of bacon caramelized in brown sugar.

Bitters With fall weather finally settling in, a bourbon-friendly bitter is a liquor-cabinet must. This Echo Park store has the autumnal Lucille ($22), a ginger-and-blood-orange concoction from Highland Park's Bitter Tears. For inspiration, try Thirsty Crow's Gingerbread Lane: whiskey, ginger liqueur and Lucille bitters.
