Feel Good Foods' Handmade Dumplings | New York City

It was a short leap from Chelsea Market to the supermarket for Vanessa Phillips and Tryg Siverson.

The husband-and-wife co-owners of Friedman's Lunch–a favorite spot among the gluten-adverse set–recently launched Feel Good Foods, a line of frozen meals that debuts with four varieties of handmade dumplings.

At Friedman's Lunch, the couple has a knack for transforming comforting staples into superb gluten-free variations. Their plump crescents, made with rice flour and potato starch, are accompanied by a wheat-free, tamari-based dipping sauce. Stuffed with mounds of chicken, pork, shrimp or vegetables (cabbage, onions, carrots and mushrooms), the dumplings are accented with cilantro, ginger and sesame oil.

Don't let the words "gluten-free" sway you: Even those who don't have a problem with wheat will appreciate this flavorful alternative to the typically gummy, bland dumplings that lurk in the freezer aisle.

In the pair's capable hands, frozen food is plenty fresh.

Feel Good Foods dumplings ($7.50 for eight) are available at Friedman's Lunch, Whole Foods, Fairway and other NYC markets (click here for a full list)
