Illy Francis Francis Y1 Coffee Maker

A gorgeous coffeemaker takes off

There are certain culinary enterprises that do as much for our eyes as they do for our taste buds. Illy Coffee has always been such a one, giving as much attention to the quality of its espresso as the glassware in which it's served.

But the company's latest project goes much further than a mug: The Francis Francis Y1 espresso machine is easily the prettiest home coffee station we've seen. The Illy team worked for several years with MM, a European design firm that has partnered with other kitchen beauties, such as Smeg, to create a clean and contemporary look that enhances any countertop.

The machine is streamlined and a cinch to operate: To draw an espresso shot, users need only touch a single button. And the Y1 uses Illy's capsule technology to ensure a well-drawn shot; the prepressed, airtight coffee pods eliminate the need to grind and tamp beans by hand. The sleek surface also doubles as a warming pad for your espresso glasses.

The only person who isn't excited is your barista.
