Harvest Moon Farm's Multimedia CSA

Easy local eating with Harvest Moon Farms' amped-up CSA

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs–investing up-front in a farm's harvest and regularly receiving a bountiful box of fresh goods–are excellent in theory. But in practice, a farm subscription often means surplus produce you have no clue what to do with.

This growing season, Wisconsin's four-year-old, organic Harvest Moon Farms is introducing a solution: a CSA that comes with user-friendly instructions in the form of recipes, wine advice and cocktail pairings designed by the farm's high-profile enthusiasts.

The four-month subscription will be accompanied by weekly e-newsletters with videos of the farm, recipes for each delivery's crops by the farm's professional chef (the owner's brother, Bradley Borchardt, who spends part of the year running two restaurants in Bangkok), cocktail recipes and pairings by Adam Seger, and wine pairings by the staff of LUSH Wine and Spirits.

Seger will contribute farm-to-glass cocktail recipes twice a month. And savory recipes, which will arrive weekly, won't be for your basic kale gratin. Instead, they'll be inspired by the high-end restaurants where Borchardt has cooked.

Owner Bob Borchardt describes his new approach as "not just selling produce, but trying to bring ideas and experiences to people through the produce we grow."

We describe it as a dream for serious CSA-ers–and the perfect intro pack for novices.
