Pie Flights At Hoosier Mama Pie Company
A new reason to visit Hoosier Mama Pie Company: Pie flights
If you've eaten your way across the Green City Market or had a sweet craving at Metropolis Coffee, you've probably tried Hoosier Mama's pies.
But if you haven't tasted three varieties at once, then you haven't earned your pie stripes.
Here's the chance you've been waiting for: Hoosier Mama's Friday pie flights, which launched at the charmingly retro bakeshop at 1618½ W. Chicago Ave. last week.
Owner Paula Haney picks five sweet pies each Friday; you choose three flavors ($7) and take a seat at one of the three tables to await your trio of slices, served on a vintage plate. Sour cream-Dutch apple gets a scoop of vanilla ice cream; peanut butter with chocolate ganache and gingersnap crust gets a sprinkle of roasted peanuts. Her newest pie, made with Indiana persimmons and a touch of mace and orange, comes with a cloud of simple whipped cream.
Want dinner after dessert? Take home a slice of Haney's savory pork-apple-sage, or her new curried vegetable pie, made with sweet potato, celery, turnips, currants and a blend of spices from The Spice House.
Added perk: She's extended Friday hours until 9 p.m.
