Starbucks' Hot Chocolate Packs A Little Kick Of Caffeine

Even those of us who try to stay away from caffeine like to enjoy a treat from Starbucks from time to time. But if you're seeking out their hot chocolate with the impression that it's free of caffeine, we have some bad news for you: it does contain a small amount of it. For instance, a 16-ounce grande hot chocolate contains 25 milligrams of caffeine.

But we can hardly blame Starbucks, as essentially all chocolate  contains some. Since the caffeine in chocolate comes from cocoa beans, white chocolate is the only kind that is devoid of the stimulant, while dark chocolate contains the highest amount. To put into perspective how the amount of caffeine in hot chocolate compares to other drinks, one espresso shot contains 63 milligrams, and a tall (12 oz) Starbucks cold brew contains 155 milligrams. So, with that in mind, a hot chocolate's caffeine amount does pale in comparison to how much is in a coffee drink. But is there a caffeine-free option at Starbucks?

There *are* caffeine-free options at Starbucks

If you're still looking to go completely caffeine-free with your treat from Starbucks, then there's no need to fret; there are indeed some drinks at the coffee chain that are completely lacking in caffeine.

The option that is closest to a hot chocolate would be the Caramel Brulée Crème Frappuccino, which will still give you that richness and sweetness that a hot chocolate would, but without any caffeine. Of course, it is a give-and-take because you'll be taking in a bit more sugar to avoid the caffeine (the frap has 49 grams of sugar, while the hot chocolate has just 37 grams). Another sweet treat option that is free of caffeine is the Strawberry Frappuccino, if you're looking for a fruitier vibe. A lemonade is also an available caffeine-free option with plenty of sweetness, as are a few of their brewed teas if you're not in a sweet mood.
