Popeyes Blackened Chicken Sandwich Added To Permanent Menu

The opportunity to hear about a non-fried chicken sandwich doesn't come along that often, which makes Popeyes' recent announcement extra exciting. In a press release sent to Tasting Table, the Louisiana-themed eatery revealed that its popular Blackened Chicken Sandwich is getting a promotion to the restaurant's main menu, getting equal billing with its crunchy counterparts. This "breading-free, flavor-full" sandwich, which retails for $4.99, is the first addition to Popeyes' roster of sandwiches since 2019.

The "Blackened Chicken Sandwich features an antibiotic-free, whole chicken breast, marinated for 12 hours, and perfectly seasoned with a delicious blend of Cajun spices, served atop a warm, toasted buttery brioche bun with... house classic or spicy mayo and crunchy barrel-cured pickles," says the company. While Popeyes stops short of calling the Blackened Chicken Sandwich a lighter or healthier option, they do refer to it as a "more everyday option" hinting that it may appeal to those who love Popeyes but would rather not eat fried chicken at every visit.

Popeyes is also adding a smoky option to its menu

The chain also announced another addition to the menu that definitely packs some meaty richness onto its already hearty fare. For $1.50, bacon and cheese can be added to any of Popeyes' chicken sandwiches. The bacon is cooked crispy and brings a pleasant smokiness to the sandwiches, while the Havarti cheese is billed as rich and melty.

To celebrate the new additions to its menu, Popeyes is offering a little thank-you gift to customers who order online or via the Popeyes app between June 6 and June 25. With the purchase of any regular chicken sandwich combo, customers will receive a free regular side, of which Popeyes has some of the most creative in the fast food world, including spiced Cajun fries, coleslaw, and their signature red beans and rice. Pair any of those with the Blackened Chicken Sandwich and you've got a meal that is anything but average.
