Over 50,000 Bottles Of Texas Pete Wing Sauce Recalled For Soy Risk
The North Carolina-based manufacturer of Texas Pete Buffalo Wing Sauce, the T.W. Garner Food Company, has issued a voluntary recall and allergy alert that applies to more than 50,688 bottles of the best-selling condiment. The FDA alert, issued May 25, warns that the ingredient in question, soy, could cause serious or life-threatening reactions in people with severe allergies.
Consistently ranked among Americans' favorite prepared wing sauces, the main ingredients in Texas Pete Buffalo Wing Sauce include vinegar, aged peppers, water, salt, and pepper. According to the notice, a customer inquiry triggered the recall after discovering a bottle of Texas Pete Extra Mild Wing Sauce mislabeled as Texas Pete Buffalo Wing Sauce. Not only does the overall mislabeling present an issue for consumers, but the mild version includes soy, whereas the buffalo version doesn't, so it's missing the allergen warning. A follow-up investigation revealed the label mix-up occurred during a production run at the company's bottling plant.
Return for a full refund
The recall specifically targets 12-ounce bottles of Texas Pete Buffalo Wing Sauce bearing UPC 0 75500 10011 6 and with a best-used-by date 12-06-23 printed on the cap. According to the recall alert, the product was shipped to distribution centers and retail stores located in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. At the time of the recall notice, there were no reports of illnesses related to the consumption of the wing sauce.
Consumers who purchased Texas Pete Buffalo Wing Sauce bearing the affected best-by date and UPC code should immediately dispose of the product or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
