Domino's Debuts First-Of-Its-Kind Apple CarPlay Ordering App

Ordering dinner on the go just got a lot easier for fans of Domino's pizza. The world's largest pizza chain announced in a press release on April 10 that it has partnered with Apple CarPlay to create a first-of-its-kind mobile ordering system, which will allow users to effortlessly place their orders with the help of their car's Bluetooth system.

According to Domino's announcement, the new system is part of the Domino's iPhone app. While in the car, the customer can simply open up the Domino's app and select "Tap to Order" or "Call to Order" to quickly place their order with their regular Domino's location or another nearby store anywhere in the United States.

"Domino's has been known as the industry leader when it comes to pizza and technology, and we're constantly striving to continue providing the best experience to customers," said Domino's Senior Vice President–Chief Digital Officer Christopher Thomas-Moore. "We know how frustrating it can be to wait in a drive-thru line just to place an order. Domino's app on CarPlay is a great alternative to that, as customers still have the convenience of staying in their car, and can place an order from wherever they are, without waiting in a long drive-thru. It's yet another way we're bringing more ease and ordering options to customers across the U.S."

The new system is the latest addition to Domino's AnyWare technology, which already had systems for ordering your favorite pizza through Alexa, Slack, Google Home, and Facebook Messenger.

How to order with CarPlay

In order to use the new integration, a user must have an iPhone with the Domino's app and a car equipped with Apple CarPlay, which synchronizes your phone's apps with your car's onboard computer and Bluetooth technology to allow drivers to use their phones without looking at them. The customer must also have a Domino's pizza profile established on the app, which allows for their Easy Order and payment information to be saved and accessed.

Once a customer is logged in and their phone is synched to the car, they can select a recent order or an easy order from the "tap to order" option on their car's screen and order from their last used location for pick up or delivery. Or, if they don't have a profile established, they can select "call to order" and select a location to place their order at. The call to order option also allows customers to select a different order than they have previously placed and select more customized options, all while talking hands free from their car.

Domino's says in its press release that it's the first pizza brand to offer a CarPlay order system and one of the first food chains to do so. Once you place your order you can then use the CarPlay feature to track your order so you know if you can pick it up on your way home or if you'd be beaten to the door by a Domino's delivery driver.
