Reese's Wants To Help You Keep The Best Candy For Yourself This Halloween

CORRECTION 10/19/22: A previous version of this article stated the bags will be given away with purchase of a 10.5-ounce bag of Reese's Peanut Butter snack-sized cups. The bags are being offered with the 9.6-ounce bags of Reese's Peanut Butter Snack Sized Ghosts, Bats & Pumpkins.

Trick or treat, or secret treat? Reese's is going with "secret" this year. As in, "here's how to keep your Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Halloween stash out of sight of would-be poachers." The perennially favorite Halloween treat currently holds first place in a Candy Store survey of America's favorite Halloween candy, with Skittles, M&Ms, Starburst, and Hot Tamales rounding out the top five.

With such a loyal fan base among trick-or-treaters and treat givers, it's clearly at risk of a surreptitious no-one's-looking swipe from the treat bag or the maneuverings of a cagey candy trader. Of course, savvy trick-or-treaters know the first thing to do upon returning home after an evening spent collecting candy — well, one of the first things after counting and sorting their stash — is to hide their favorites in a secure location, tucked away from the prying eyes of sweet-craving friends and family. But what about when you're still making the rounds?

Treat or treat or hide and seek?

This year, Reese's has you — or at least your candy — covered. The division of Hershey that began making the now-famous chocolate-covered peanut butter cups in 1928 created its first-ever Reese's Secret Stash Trick-or-Treat Bag (via Hersheyland). That's right. Secret stash. According to a company statement, the specially created trick-or-treat bag has a secret compartment to separate and hide your favorite candies away from the rest of your haul. The right eye of the jack-o-lantern-shaped tote is an easy-access portal to a secret compartment. To access the haul, just unzip the bottom flap and dig in.

We can only guess Reese's Secret Stash Trick-or-Treat Bags will become a must-have and highly coveted Halloween accessory. Reese's is giving away just 150 of the customized totes. Starting at noon (ET) on October 19, the first 150 people to log on to the Hershey online store and purchase a 9.6-ounce bag of Reese's Peanut Butter Snack Sized Ghosts, Bats & Pumpkins will also receive a secret-stash bag. The totes are available on a first-come-first-serve basis while supplies last.
