Your Pork Chop Marinade Needs One Ultra Sweet Soda
BY Julia Holland
Alongside herbs and spices, the marinating liquid can also be a great flavor agent in a marinade. When it comes to pork chops, root beer is the ultra sweet soda you need to try.
Sweet and savory is an especially popular pairing for pork, and sodas also make for great meat marinades. Root beer, in particular, can benefit your pork chops in multiple ways.
Its sweetness complements the meat’s savoriness, and its carbonation provides the acid necessary to tenderize the pork. It also gives the meat a browned, caramelized sear.
Root beer also has a unique taste, once imparted by the herbal, almost medicinal-tasting sassafras root extract. It still uses herbal, licorice-like flavors that go well with pork.
