Your Frozen Pizza Will Taste Better With One Zesty Ingredient
By BETHANY SWANSON
While we may associate frozen pizza with freezer burn and the taste of cardboard, it has come a long way and is now available with all kinds of options — from gluten-free to cauliflower crust, vegetarian to meat lovers, and more. However, there’s an easy way to add even more flavor to your simple frozen pizza.
Former pizza chef Gretchen Holm recommends adding lemon zest or drizzling some fresh lemon juice lightly over a hot pizza, saying the citrus adds a level of freshness to the frozen food. The lemon's zing provides an unexpected bright note to what could have been an unsurprising and basic dish.
If the tangy taste of lemon is too much for you, try using lemon-infused olive oil instead, and you can also brush your crust with a little olive oil before baking to achieve that crispy, perfect golden-brown color. Additionally, you can top your pizza with some arugula tossed in lemon and olive oil for added freshness.
