You Only Need A Few Herbs To Totally Punch Up Canned Enchilada Sauce

While home cooks are embracing canned enchilada sauce for its already great taste, you can further elevate its flavor with fresh herbs like cilantro, bay leaves, and epazote.
These herbs freshen the dish and add a depth of flavor. To add cilantro, simply chop some sprigs and add them to the sauce before serving it to bring color and brighten the flavor.
When incorporating bay leaves, let them simmer in the sauce for about 15 minutes. This infuses the sauce with a subtle, woody taste that complements its chili powder and paprika.
Meanwhile, epazote, with its hints of tarragon and mint, should be finely chopped and left to simmer in the sauce. It is a perfect counterpart to aromatics like onion and garlic.
