Why Your Coffee Grounds Should Get Creamer Before You Start Brewing
BY Kerry Hayes
To add extra sweetness and creaminess to your coffee as you're brewing it and save yourself an extra step, add dry creamer to the grounds before you start the brewing process.
When you mix powdered creamer with the grounds, the heating water helps release the oils and acids (the flavors) in the grounds, and the creamer dissolves evenly into the water.
Milk proteins in the creamer then react with the chlorogenic acids in the coffee and bind to the coffee's tannins, which help ease the drink's acidity and bitterness, respectively.
Plus, the sugars in the creamer sweeten and brighten the coffee’s flavor. From dairy-based and plant-based to flavored ones, there are myriad dry creamers you can use for the job.
