Why You Should Try Adding Potato Chips To Your Mashed Potatoes
By MICHELLE WELSCH
Mashed potatoes are one of the most comforting Thanksgiving dishes, and potato chips are perhaps the most popular crunchy snack around — now imagine combining them into one unbeatable dish. Adding potato chips to your mashed potatoes sounds odd, but it's a great way to add textural and visual contrast to a smooth mash.
The trick is to smash the potato chips before stirring them into your cooked mashed mixture, and you can either use a food processor or place the chips into a sealed plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin. The crushed chips will add pops of crispiness to your mashed potatoes, just like fried onions on green bean casserole.
If you're having guests over, consider setting out bowls of crushed potato chip "toppings" so each diner can choose their favorite flavor to add to their mash, whether it be salt and vinegar, BBQ, or sour cream and onion. Potato chips fancied up with smoked salmon or caviar also make for one of the easiest party appetizers ever.
