Why You Should Add Chia Seeds
To Your
Overnight Oats
By CLAIRE REDDEN
You probably already know chia seeds from their Chia Pets glory days, but have you added them to your overnight oats yet? These seeds are touted as a “superfood,” which is often simply a marketing buzzword, but they actually live up to the hype.
With a mild flavor, chia seeds are easy to add to almost any food, and with their massive health benefits, you’ll want to add them to everything. These tiny seeds are known as one of the best plant sources of omega-3 fatty acids and are high in protein, calcium, phosphorus, zinc, and soluble and insoluble fiber.
Because of their high mucilage fiber content, chia seeds can absorb up to 10 times their weight in liquid, turning these seeds into a thick, jelly-like substance. Adding chia seeds to your overnight oats will make them creamier and thicker, and they will help keep you fuller for longer.
