Why You Need To Give Canned Tuna The Cacio E Pepe Treatment
By ERICA ANDREWS
To make a simple and tasty dish, give your canned tuna the cacio e pepe treatment by adding parmesan cheese and freshly ground black pepper, just like the classic Roman pasta.
For this recipe, add three tablespoons of regular or olive oil-based mayonnaise to two 5-ounce cans of tuna, then grind in some black pepper and add grated parmesan.
If you make a tuna melt with this mix, toss in some capers and lemon juice to infuse some tang into each bite. You can use the following steps to make a cacio e pepe tuna melt.
Slather your bread of choice with some butter, add your cacio e pepe-infused tuna in an even layer, and toast it on the stove in a pan, or simply bake it in the oven.
The melt should cook for two minutes at medium-low heat in a pan, or bake it on a baking sheet in a 400 degrees Fahrenheit oven for five to eight minutes.
If you use a broiler to brown the cheese in the mixture, only do so for about four minutes or until the cheese is golden brown. The tuna is also delicious with crunchy crackers.
