Why The Amount Of Bourbon Left In The Bottle Matters For Storage
BY BRIAN UDALL
Though oxidation takes a long time to make a noticeable difference in bourbon, it's important to consider how much bourbon is left in your bottle when storing and drinking it.
Once a bottle has only ⅓ of its contents left, the rate at which the flavors deteriorate rises substantially since there is a lot more air inside the bottle.
This isn't an exact science, and while it seems that some bourbons are more affected than others, tradition and observation hold it to be true.
Dissipation also occurs when aromatic compounds in the bourbon evaporate into the air and are lost, impacting how aromatic your bourbon is.
