Why Kirkland's New Sriracha Seasoning Isn't Enticing Costco Shoppers
BY CLAIRE REDDEN
Despite being an affordable and convenient alternative to the classic Huy Fong, Costco's Kirkland Signature sriracha seasoning's high sugar content has repelled shoppers.
On its ingredient label, the seasoning lists sugar as the first and primary ingredient, which is a red flag, especially when it doesn't disclose exactly how much sugar there is.
Per FDA guidelines, anything with less than .5 grams of sugar per serving can be listed as 0 grams. So, as a seasoning rationed at .8 grams per serving, it has over 60% sugar.
While you can't tell how prevalent the sugar flavor is without tasting it yourself, it seems most people aren't bothered and would rather stick with the classic Huy Fong they know.
