A slow cooker is a common go-to for making pot roast, since you can throw everything in at once and let it cook, but cooking it in a pot in the oven is a much quicker option.
It takes much less time to cook pot roast in the oven. Instead of taking six to eight hours in your crockpot, the dish will be ready in three to four hours.
Another perk is you can use a Dutch oven or other heat-safe pot to sear the meat on the stovetop first and then cook it in the oven, meaning you'll have fewer dishes to clean.
You’ll want to be precise when using the oven so that the collagen in tough cuts of meat will have time to become tender. Don't cook it at too hot of a temperature.
