Why Do Some Restaurants Place Glass Over The White Tablecloths?

When restaurants place glass over white tablecloths, it may seem it's being done to increase the desirability of the table, but the reality is different and far less glamorous.
The glass toppers are primarily placed to prevent any stains from food or drink, make cleaning easier and quicker, and to reduce the overall laundry budget of the restaurant.
However, the TRSA states that tablecloths can make a surface five times cleaner than a bare, regularly-cleaned table, making glass toppers a health hazard you'd rather avoid.
