Why Are There Usually Carrots In Your Canned Jalapenos?
BY Amanda Berrill
Cans of pickled jalapeños include bright orange carrots for good reason. Carrots aren't always seen in the can's image, but the ingredient list specifies they’re there.
Carrots help absorb some of the spiciness of the jalapeño peppers, which can tend to be fairly spicy on their own. The carrots also add a bit of sweetness to the pickled mix.
However, you shouldn’t assume the carrots will be mildly flavored, as they can be just as spicy as the peppers. Carrots also add a nice color and texture to the pickled jalapeños.
