White Meat Vs. Dark: Is There A Nutritional Difference?
By ARIANNA ENDICOTT
Whether you serve it up in a soup, stew, roasted, or sliced, poultry is full of protein that will help you feel fuller for longer. White meat is seen in poultry such as chickens, turkeys, and ducks, yet depending on the animal's cut before it is cooked, some parts may be lighter than others. Here's why.
Many poultry meat is an excellent source of protein, vitamins, and minerals, although white meat is typically seen as healthier than dark meat because of reduced fat and calorie content. However, this comes at a cost because white meat frequently includes more saturated fats and less vitamin and mineral content.
Dark meat is darker because of myoglobin, a protein found in muscle tissue, which indicates that it comes from a more muscular part of the animal. Dark meat contains more calories than white meat but also more protein, zinc, iron, and vitamin C, and it doesn’t dry out as quickly during cooking.
