A study conducted by Credello ranked states based on their whiskey prices and uncovered that the cheapest place for a bottle is California, where a bottle costs under $15.
The platform aggregated a search across online liquor distributors to reach their conclusions. It's not methodology without its imperfections, but it gives a strong indication.
Numerous factors lead to price disparity across the country, with taxation being a major contributor. Some states add over $30 extra cost per gallon, while others only add $2.
Some state governments also have control over alcohol distribution and set prices. California is not a control state and has one of the lowest spirit taxes.
