What’s Really In A Full English Breakfast?
BY AUSTIN HAVENS-BOWEN
The full English breakfast, dating back to the 14th century, includes bacon, baked beans, black pudding, eggs, mushrooms, sausages, toast, tomatoes, and fried potatoes.
Black pudding is a sausage made with beef or pork and flavored with pig or cow blood. The eggs are typically fried with a runny yolk and the bread is often fried in butter or lard.
The meal is served with a cup of tea or coffee, juice, and sometimes fruit. To finish it off like a true Brit, douse everything in HP sauce, a popular English condiment.
The breakfast is usually made of the same ingredients, but specific components will vary per region. Any substantial variation might turn it into a Scottish or Irish breakfast.
