What Type Of Fish Is In McDonald's Filet-O-Fish Sandwich?
BY Jen Peng
McDonald's is best known for its burgers, but the fast-food chain offers various other items on its menu. One such classic non-burger is the Filet-O-Fish.
According to McDonald's FAQ page, the sandwich in the U.S. uses Alaskan pollock (or walleye pollock), which is wild-caught and sourced from sustainable fisheries.
The Alaskan pollock has flaky white flesh with a mild flavor and tender texture. It's a good source of lean protein and is rich in vitamin B12 and omega-3 fatty acids.
Alaskan pollock is also one of the best fish for fish sticks and holds up well to frying, which is one of the reasons it's used in the Filet-O-Fish sandwich.
The Filet-O-Fish in Britain uses pollock or hoki fish, also known as blue hake and the New Zealand whiptail, per the McDonald's U.K. website.
