What Happens If You Accidentally Eat Bay Leaves?
BY SEPTEMBER GRACE MAHINO
If you accidentally eat a bay leaf, it is unlikely that anything bad will happen, as they aren't toxic to humans. However, once dried, they can be choking hazards.
According to a 1983 article published in JAMA, the most extreme case related to bay leaves was when a piece perforated a patient's intestinal wall, causing lower abdominal pain.
You can chop or crush bay leaves into pieces before cooking them to avoid any untoward incidents, but it may be best to just leave them whole for easy removal.
