What Exactly Is Texas Trash Pie?
By CLARICE KNELLY
Texas trash pie isn't a name that exactly gets the appetite going, but this dessert is a delicious, everything-but-the-kitchen sink twist dessert that may contain pecans, pretzels, chocolate chips and more. The pie originated in Round Top, Texas at Royeres Round Top Café, and is so popular that it's available for shipping across the country.
A Texas trash pie’s filling features plenty of sweet treats, such as chocolate chips, shredded coconut, and caramel bits, plus added crunch that may come from pretzels, crumbled graham crackers, and often pecan pieces. You can’t forget to mix in butter and sweetened condensed milk to make sure the filling holds together when baked.
If you don’t want to pay to have this pie shipped to you, it's fairly easy to make at home. Simply mix all your sweet ingredients together with condensed milk, pour the mixture into a frozen pre-made pie crust to bake, and let it cool before serving with whipped cream, caramel, or Royers Round Top Café's choice: vanilla ice cream.
